Coastodians: Protecting Coastal Towns
Our purpose is to pick up trash and debris on the coastline, in public areas and on streets, in order to beautify the town of Narragansett, RI and neighboring coastal Rhode Island towns if needed. Rhode Island is called the ocean state, and we will focus on towns that have a coastline border. We will be able to service these additional towns by seeking local and/or government funding for that area. We will strive to create a cleaner, healthier and more inviting atmosphere to both residents and visitors, thereby increasing the appeal for people to enjoy the town(s) and hopefully increase the popularity of local parks, beaches, coastlines, fishing and recreational areas, businesses and real estate. Most importantly, we will contribute to the conservation of our marine and terrestrial ecosystems. We will be a community-based program, offering residents and visitors alike to participate by volunteering in monthly cleanups, while we ourselves will do weekly cleanups to address areas in need. We would like to work closely with the local municipalities such as the town hall, public works, police and fire departments who have a good understanding of areas to focus our attention on. Our funding will be primarily based on corporate and small business sponsorship, available government grants, fundraising, merchandise sales such as branded clothing and various items, and private donations. We would also like to make our services available to private landowners for a one-time mandatory minimum donation to the organization for each requested cleanup in order to cover the additional work expenses.
If Adequate funding is provided, We would also like to hold community events such as barbecues or field/beach day events once or twice a year on the day of a monthly cleanup, from Memorial Day to Labor Day in Narragansett, hoping to bring the community closer together, and our regular cleanups will continue year round for all coastal towns or private residents that would have us.
Another purpose we hope to achieve is to relieve spending on cleanups performed by the town(s) and paid for by the taxpayers, and free up that money to be allocated towards improvements or community-based projects within the town(s).
